The Carolinas Regional Council (later Carolinas
Council) was founded in 1971 when there were nine chapters in the two
Carolinas with approximately 2,000 members.
It was the first Council formed of the twenty-four Councils in the
Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) and was chartered in 1975.
The Council’s purpose is to
further the objectives of the IMA and its members, to promote and facilitate
cooperation and communication between chapters and councils, and to provide
a means to pool resources and assist chapters. Through the Council, chapters
can communicate with other chapters and its members can participate in the
national IMA organization. The Council sponsors continuing education
programs and the annual Carolinas Spring Conference in Myrtle Beach, SC .
The Carolina Council offers IMA members an opportunity for
national service. The Council elects one of its members to represent the
Council on the national board of directors. The Council also selects members
to serve on IMA national committees.
Each IMA chapter selects its Council representatives. A chapter may select
more than one representative, and all IMA members are welcome to attend
Council meetings.
